Phoebe Clarke | Class of 2017
Phoebe Clarke, daughter of our beloved librarian Charlotte, graduated in Class of 2017.
Did you have a plan when you left school?
“When I finished my HSC, I knew I wanted to work in a creative field where I could apply both creativity and my organisational skills. I spent a few months travelling through Europe before moving to Sydney to begin an internship with Australian designer Aje. I supported the PR and Marketing teams and gained invaluable first-hand experience in the fashion industry, and helped facilitate some of the brand’s largest fashion shows and events. I said yes to every opportunity presented to me.”
“After a few years, I secured a role at Rizer, a global experiential agency, where I am now a Producer for leading luxury brands including Cartier, Chanel, Zimmermann and Qantas. I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for the many professions involved in producing a spectacular show, from lighting designers and audio directors to choreographers, show callers, chefs, caterers and stylists. It really is a well-oiled machine. My career has already taken me to Japan, New Zealand, Hong Kong and throughout Australia, and it continues to expand. That level of opportunity, so early on, is something I’m incredibly grateful for.”
What skill from school that became more important than you expected?
“A skill I use every single day is communication, and learning how to work closely with people from all walks of life. Being encouraged at school to sit quietly and truly listen to what others had to say has benefited me enormously. While it may have felt tedious at the time, that ability to listen, observe and understand different perspectives has become one of the most valuable tools in life. “
Is there something you remember from school that makes you laugh?
“I used to arrive at the classroom early in the morning, open the curtains, clean the chalkboard, straighten the chairs and tidy the desks. Probably a little over-the-top but I love creating a calm and organised environment. I still do the same thing in the office before starting my workday.”
Teacher memory of Phoebe: “We could have predicted Phoebe’s trajectory onto the international stage as an events manager. She was always highly organised and bringing people together for fundraising and events at school,” Rachel K, Guardian.
