During the first week of Term 3, Class 10 went on the annual school camp to the beautiful city of Melbourne.
After arriving at school at 4.30AM, the students boarded their flight and were on their way towards an activity packed week.
The multitude of activities included plays (Bell Shakespeare’s ROMEO AND JULIET and ROCKY HORROR SHOW – the highlight for most of us), an AFL game (Go the Dogs! Sorry, Ric), ice skating, the amazing atmosphere and food at the Queen Victoria Winter Night Market, the Road to Zero interactive road safety program, art galleries and an informational talk and tour about the homelessness crisis in Melbourne city with the Salvation Army.
Day One was a mammoth 19 hours of travel and activities, including the performance of Romeo and Juliet. During the performance our classmate Isla was pulled up onto stage to dance with the character Tybalt during the Capulet party scene, an amazing opportunity and Isla rocked it!
Additionally, two university tours (Melbourne and RMIT) showed the class potential opportunities for tertiary education. It was wonderful to be hosted at the University of Melbourne by CBRSS alumni (2021) Della Knight and Charlotte Vokler. The Race Around Melbourne day taught students valuable skills in navigation and public transport while living in the city’s bustling CBD.
However, the most important thing about the camp was the independence students gained. From self navigating the city, to arriving at destinations on time, this camp allowed us a strong sense of freedom while still valuing the importance of organisation and time management. School camps are always filled with wonderful shared experiences and bonding between classmates which is essential for a harmonious environment in such a small school as CBRSS.
This is such an important camp for Class 10, to grow as young adults, gain independence and connect together over experiences. It is safe to say that the Melbourne Urban Experience camp has been the most popular class camp so far.
