As part of their Year of Service, our Class 9 students embark on a meaningful journey of volunteering, personal growth, and hands-on learning.

Students spend time at the Byron Bay RSL Lifecare Nursing Home where they build heartfelt connections with residents. Time is also spent at  Byron Bay Herb Nursery  where they gain valuable experience supporting people with disabilities.

They have done a Beach Clean Up with good cheer, and had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful guest speakers who contribute to making our community a safe, inclusive, caring place for all. So far, Damian from Fletcher Street Cottage told us about the many ways his team supports the homeless in the Byron Shire, and Lily Harrison (Class of 2019) shared her story of creating Period Packs to support vulnerable and homeless people in our shire.

The journey continues with an unforgettable five-day camp at Warrah Steiner Specialist School, where students work alongside carers and students with diverse needs. They are involved in hands-on projects to enhance the Warrah School environment, contributing to something bigger than themselves while learning teamwork, resilience, and leadership.

These transformative experiences not only enrich their lives but also contribute towards attaining their prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Award at the end of the year—an achievement that recognises amongst other qualities, their commitment, initiative, and service to others.
