The Cape Byron Rudolf Steiner School began in 1988 with a kindergarten class of sixteen children graduating from the ‘Periwinkle’ Rudolf Steiner pre-school. Class 1 began in 1989 in the Bangalow Showground shed. In the autumn of 1990 the Cape Byron Rudolf Steiner School moved to its permanent home in Balraith Lane, Ewingsdale, with a new kindergarten, administration block and two new classrooms. In 1995 the high school commenced with the first Year 8 class. The school expanded to Year 12 in 2000. Over the ensuing years, enrolments at the school steadily increased.
In 2015, aligned with the requirements of the School’s current D.A., the Board set a maximum limit of 370 students enrolled. Since this date, we have effectively been full with a growing waiting list.
An ongoing building program has allowed the school to provide quality learning areas for all students plus facilities for movement, drama, music and design and technology. The school also now has a covered outdoor learning area and a purpose built performance hall.
In 2015, the Board commissioned Michael Leung to create a Master Plan for the school. This plan was adopted in 2016, with construction starting in January 2018 on the first project: The Innovation Centre. The building was completed in only 8 months and is now a vibrant part of the school environment. Read More about the Master Plan and Innovation Centre.
There are many families, teachers, support staff and community members who have dedicated their time, skills and energy to establishing and developing the Cape Byron Rudolf Steiner School. The vibrant, warm and successful school we have today exists thanks to their hard work. For this we are very grateful.
