As part of the Year 7 Wish, Wonder and Surprise Main Lesson, this week the class went on a wonderful excursion to first visit the pre-schoolers at Periwinkle and then the residents at the RSL Nursing Home in Suffolk Park. Students spent the morning playing with 4 year olds in the sandpit, on the flying fox, up a tree, with their elbows immersed in bubbles and singing songs. At midday, the students met an equally welcoming group of new friends, this time aged into their late 80s. Our students recited poetry and played musical instruments, before playing a group game of Pictionary, sharing cookies and fruit platters, and getting to know a little about the people who live there in residential care. The class felt profoundly touched by this unique excursion where we experienced up close and back-to-back the polarities of life, and the wonder each brings. Thank you so much to the staff at both Periwinkle and the RSL Nursing Home for welcoming us so warmly into your environments as you did. The students described the day as “inspiring”, “touching”, “moving” and a day that made them feel “grateful” and “happy”.
