Cape Byron turned a few heads at Sydney Olympic park this week coming out the overall Winner in the NSW State netball Championships. The “Black Oystas” looked sleek, professional and showed great skill on the courts with all 5 games undefeated. The final was a nail-biting and tough game with the boys behind by three in the first half, then charging to a solid victory of 18 – 13 in the second half. With a maximum of 10 to a side, Netball NSW allowed an exception so we could have ALL 11 of our year 8 boys participate in the Championships and this was a key component of their success. While their skills were impressive, what stood out the most was their teamwork – they were respectful to their opponents, courteous to their umpires and showed wonderful team spirit.
Our illustrious leader Ric also turned heads in the Staff Vs Coaches game. An obvious crowd favourite, Ric pulled out some moves Netball NSW had never seen before and was voted ‘Best on Court’ for his athleticism, skills and entertainment value. Cape Byron should feel very proud of their ambassadors this week; I certainly was.
