NCIS Regional Athletics Carnival

On Tuesday 21st August Ric, Lizzie and Tanya took 29 students to the Regional Athletics Carnival in Coffs Harbour. It was a cold and early start leaving the school at 5:15 am. There was a little excitement in the bus as everyone was hoping that they were well prepared for the day. The day was a fantastic cool but sunny day, perfect for an athletics carnival. All our students strived to do their best scoring well for the school and showing impressive athletic abilities. Cape Byron put in an amazing effort as a team ending up 5th place overall. This is an amazing achievement considering that we could not fill all the events. We had some outstanding individual results on the day with Taj Birrell winning the runner up Age Champion Trophy. Taj came first in Shot put, 3rd in Javelin and scored a total of 45 points with his efforts in 5 other events! Naomi Ben Harush won the 12 year old Javelin throwing 16.70 m and breaking the NCIS record by almost a metre. She also came 1st in the shot put, 3rd in the discus and collected 38 points for the school over the day. Laila Campbell demonstrated an excellent running style that saw her come 3rd in the 200m and over the day she collected a healthy 27 points for the school. Sam Morrell managed a massive Javelin throw to come first in this event and collected 24 points for the school. Jamaii Nelson showed great focus to win the 100m, 3rd in the 200m, 3rd in the high jump and collect 35 valuable points for the school. Michelangelo Thomas came 2nd in the Discus and collected a total of 20 points with his efforts in other events through the day. Sammy Walsh made an impression in the Javelin throwing 27.57 meters coming 2nd in this event. All these students have received an invitation to the CIS State Championships to be held in Sydney on the 25th September.

All our other team members contributed well throughout the day collecting many points for their involvement. Asher Clarke 7pts, Ryder Doran 8 pts, Kashi Hagedoorn-Weekes 6pts, Brianna Hart 15pts, Maiso Hemensley Kolcze 5 pts, Jassie Jones 6pts, Della Knight 10pts, Zen Larkins-Widdison 10pts, Hannah Murray an impressive 19pts, Eyal Partush 2pts, Krystal Pierce 8pts, Sachin Smith 6pts, Sam Trowbridge 8pts, Zach Walcott 9pts, Buzz Walker 8pts, Oceana Williams-Brauer 1pt, Noni Wright 9 pts.

Thank you to all the Cape Byron athletes who participated and made the day so enjoyable. Also a big thank you to Adrian and Richard who helped with training and to Tanya, Lizzie, Ric and Adrian who made the day possible.
