It is the 80th birthday of Song Dynasty Music’s Grand Dame, Elizabeth Swain, and we are putting on one hell of a show at the Brunswick Picture House.
Local and Sydney musicians are joining together to perform Come Ye Sons of Art – an elegant and restrained, cultured and refined piece of music written by Henry Purcell for the birthday of Queen Mary, way back in 1694.
This will be followed by a dinner break, where canapes and snacks will be served by very handsome waiters in the gorgeous courtyard of the Picture House.
After supper, there will be a complete change of mood as the cast presents a modern re-telling of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury.
Both performances will be accompanied by a small orchestra, conducted by Elizabeth herself, with choir and soloists including many well loved locals – Kathryn Walker, Andrew Swain, Mark Swivel, Sara Saint Saens, Melinda Reed and Ashley Gittens as well as well known performers (and former students of Elizabeth) Tobias Cole (counter tenor), and Meredith O’Reilly (musical theatre performer and producer).
The show is directed by Janet Swain and Ollie Heathwood.
The final song is likely to raise the roof of the Picture House as local choirs join in from the audience for the grand finale.
We hope you can join us! Tickets are limited, and on sale now. you know what to do……. here’s the link.
