From the Principal

Hello everyone,

Two years ago, I asked our staff at our end-of-year staff meeting, “What are your dreams for the next year for the school?” One of the strongest responses, agreed by all, was that our staff wanted to build a stronger relationship with the Arakwal people and come to a better understanding of and relationship to country. Last year, with wonderful leadership from Peter Palmer, we celebrated NAIDOC week across the school. We also introduced a new emphasis on acknowledging country at all school events.

This year we have turned our attention to developing a Reconciliation Action Plan for the school. A group of dedicated staff from across the school have been meeting to work on this and, this week, we met with Aunty Delta Kay to talk about the process and how we can work together. The process of developing a Reconciliation Action Plan is a process of building relationship and developing understanding. We expect this will be an ongoing process and are really looking forward to engaging fully with it.

We are currently in the process of developing a vision for our reconciliation plan and will be engaging staff, High School students and our school community in this. In the coming weeks, parents will receive a short survey on this topic and I hope you are able to complete the survey for us. If you are interested in joining our Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group, I would love to hear from you.

On another topic, thank you to those parents who are working so hard on final preparations for our Spring Fair. This is a huge event in our school calendar and takes a lot of organisation. I know that our parent community are very busy and that it can be difficult to find the time to devote to working on the Spring Fair. I truly appreciate the hard work of those parents who are so generously giving of their time. Our Spring Fair brings our school community together and it simply wouldn’t happen without the tireless efforts of Emma (Spring Fair Coordinator) and the wonderful team of parent volunteers. Please help them out by supporting wherever you can.

Peace
Nerrida
