On the 6th of April our Senior Visual Art Classes travelled to Sydney to view some the top Bodies of Work from the state in the prestigious ARTEXPRESS exhibition organized by BOSTES and the Art Gallery of NSW.
“ARTEXPRESS is an annual exhibition featuring a selection of outstanding student artworks developed for the art making component of the HSC examination in Visual Arts in NSW. It includes a broad range of approaches and expressive forms, including ceramics, collection of works, documented forms, drawing, graphic design, painting, photomedia, printmaking, sculpture, textiles and fibre, and time-based forms.”
The students loved this exhibition as it provided an amazing opportunity to view and discuss HSC top band works of art.
We also had a rare chance to view John Olsen’s exhibition called, THE YOU BEAUT COUNTRY.
“John Olsen is one of Australia’s greatest living artists. Olsen is well known for his energetic and distinctive painting style and in particular for his lyrical depiction of the landscape. He is a major figure in the story of Australian art and his unique and sensual pictorial language presents a very personal view of the world.”
The students marveled at his large scale work and enjoyed the playfulness of his mark making and of course found a comfortable spot here relaxing on the inbuilt seats whilst viewing a painting that had been suspended from the ceiling.
The students enjoyed a sunny city experience and returned home inspired and excited about their own art making practice.
